Sales Pitch

Airman Jones was assigned to the induction center, where he advised new recruits about their government benefits, especially their GI insurance.

It wasn’t long before Captain Smith noticed that Airman Jones had almost a 100% record for insurance sales, which had never happened before.

Rather than ask about this, the Captain stood in the back of the room and listened to Jones’s sales pitch.

Jones explained the basics of the GI Insurance to the new recruits, and then said: “If you have GI Insurance and go into battle and are killed, the government has to pay $200,000 to your beneficiaries. If you don’t have GI insurance, and you go into battle and get killed, the government only has to pay a maximum of $6000.”

“Now,” he concluded, “which bunch do you think they are going to send into battle first?”

Prayers for the Injured and Families and Friends. Need Help in Yorkville Illinois

Grace and peace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 2 (NIV)

I had written Tuesday’s blog Sunday morning and when I was done I logged into the internet and found out that my blog had changed.

Cergie and I met Saturday evening and she said “Can you believe all the things that are happening everywhere?” Immediately I knew she was talking about all the shootings and senseless killing that has been happening all over our country and the world. We talked about these events for a few minutes and concluded that the world has become a “crazy place” to live in right now.  The next day the news broadcast told of a shooter killing 4 people in a Waffle House in Nashville Tennessee.

So if I don’t mention this Cergie will probably wonder why I did not include it my weekly blog. Cergie and I are not same age and she is way younger than me, trying for brownie points here, but she relayed a story to me that someone else told her that when he went to school the school doors were always open and school was one of the safest places to be…except for that one time when a dog wondered into a school room and bit someone. People did not go out to schools or any other public settings to kill other people but apparently now they do and there is little safety for anyone anywhere. I realized then that it was the Christians that saw all the things that were happening in the world. We Christians live for good things to help our family, friends, and one another. To live our lives out with our family and friends and our children as they grow into their families. To live in love and happiness without fear and it is this point of view the seeing of goodness that allows the Christians to see the bad things that happen too. I have a friend that is not a Christian and would often say “That’s part of life.” I just shake my head in sadness.

So now it’s Monday and I was finishing up this blog when I saw another news flash about a person hitting people with a van and apparently it was deliberate. The driver has killed 10 people and injured 15 others.

More senseless killing of innocent people and more injured. As a Christian I will not pretend to understand that things that go on in this world or God’s plan for all of us but I do know this.

17 pray without ceasing, 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (NRSV)

So praying for the families and friends of the victims and the injured is what we Christians should do and I know many of us do. Then something else happened.

I as I was looking for the news pages on the internet about the above events I happened across this article that tugged at my heart strings. A young marine veteran single mom of 4 children needs help.

Everyone needs to read this article and everyone needs to act to help this mother of four…why? Because we can as Christians we can help the people around us in overcoming overwhelming challenges we cannot help the victims or the deceased but we can help those around us. So I am asking for anyone in the Yorkville Illinois area to reach out to this mother and her children and help them with their needs. Prayers for all the families and this young mother and if there are any organization or churches that can help…please do.

I have to admit in the last 72 hours this has been one of the most interesting blogs that God has guided me through and I hope it happens again next week. Praise be to God.

21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. Revelation 22:21 (KJV)
