Let me just say this before moving on to the .answers to last week’s pop quiz. In my opinion Catholics, Methodists, Baptists, and Lutherans and all Christian sects believe Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior and died for our sins after that we spin off in different directions and interpretations but we are all still Christians.
The Answers to the Pop Quiz
F is not a correct answer since Cergie is not mentioned in last week’s blog. However if you follow our blogs I do mention her from time to time so the question is valid. 100 points
If you picked just B, D, O, and R you would be correct. Personally speaking I would never argue with scripture. 300 points.
If you picked H, I and L then you should have picked R as well since H, I, and L refer to R. 300 points.
If you picked just N congratulations the movie “Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy” is wonderfully humorous. 100 points.
If you picked Z you would be correct. When I read the answer sheet I realized I had forgotten T so I included it into the equation. 300 points.
Logically Z would be the correct answer but when I looked closely at the answer list and the topic I was addressing I discovered it was … Q.
Q simply asks “Can I pick more than one answer?” The answer is yes not simply because more than one answer applies but we because we all have our own opinions and interpretations of the bible. Because God gave us free will to make decisions to love or not love and whom to love to form opinions about people and our society. In my journey as a Christian one scripture can mean one thing and 6 months later the same scripture takes on a new meaning.
Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king 1Peter2:17 (NKJV)
This verse reminds the Christian believer to respect all people, believers and non believers alike, of their opinions and feelings. Just because someone does not agree with you does not give we the Christians the right to change their mind. However, we can voice our, the Christian, opinion and hope it is received with the same respect as we have given. Sometimes we have to do this with our Christian brothers and sisters and sometimes it is not received well even though they like ourselves are Christian as well.
12 Indeed, all who want to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. 2 Timothy 3:12 (NRSV)
As humans we sometimes have to devise a rationale or logic to support our belief/opinions usually because society wonders why we have such opinions. Our persecution comes from believers and non-believers which can be overwhelming at times. Yes I do speak from experience on that one but I firmly believe that in our journey in the Christian faith some mature faster than others. I have met many Christian brothers and sisters that are have a greater mature outlook in the Christian faith then I do and realize that our paths crossed so that we could learn from each other. Yes I said “we could learn from each other.” That’s also called fellowship or this…
Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another. Proverbs 27-17 ESV
So the point of this blog is not the super charged topic of homosexuality because many Christians have many opinions in regards to that topic but rather respect for all people and their opinions including those of the Christian brotherhood. We all have opinions and most people will change their opinions in time one way or another. Regardless we should remember this
I give you a new commandment that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another John 13:34 (NRSV)
In love there are many aspects and respect is one of them but here Jesus tells us to love one another. Apparently this is a very hard thing for humans to do since there is still so much chaos and killing in the world.
I have had gay friends in my past and aside from their sexual preferences they all shared one thing. Why try being a Christian when all the Christians think that gays are sinners.
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 3:23 (NKJV)
I am a sinner but I believe that Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior and died for our sins. I love the Christian brotherhood and all the Christians in it. Should I avoid the sinners that are not Christian or should I love those sinners that are not Christian and do not believe that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior and died for our sins anyway?
I will respect all those whose opinion differs from mine. Apologies to those that I have offended obviously I have not grown in my Christian maturity.
23 May the grace of the Lord Jesus be with you.24 My love to all of you in Christ Jesus. 1 Corinthians 16: 23-24 (NLT)
P.S. If you answered the question with multiple answers that YOU feel is correct award yourself 300 points.
Congratulations you have just bowled the perfect game…smiley face.
