Last Wishes

Sometime after Sidney died, his widow, Rachel, was finally able to speak about what a thoughtful, considerate, and wonderful man her late husband had been.

“My Sidney thought of everything”, she told them. “Just before he died, he called me to his bedside. He handed me three envelopes. ‘Rachel’, he told me. ‘I have put all my last wishes in these three envelopes. After I am gone, please open them and do exactly as I have instructed. Knowing you’ll do this, I can rest in peace’.”

“What was in the envelopes?” her friends asked.

“The first envelope contained $5,000 with a note, ‘Please use this money to buy a nice casket’. So I bought a beautiful mahogany casket with such a comfortable lining that I know Sidney is resting very comfortably.

“The second envelope contained $10,000 with a note, ‘Please use this for a nice funeral’. I made Sidney a very dignified funeral and bought all his favorite foods.”

“And the third envelope?” asked her friends.

“The third envelope contained $25,000 with a note, ‘Please use this to buy a nice stone’.

At that point, Rachel held up her hand and pointed to her ring finger, on which was a gorgeous ten carat diamond ring.

“So?” said Rachel, “You like my stone?”

I am really into the Christian music that kind of sounds like pop music. To all my friends and family that have recently friended me on facebook…hold on tight.

What About Love

Grace and peace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 2 (NIV)

The other day I was wondering what I would blog about for this week when the voice that I know as the Holy Spirit said “Love.” Here is a great scripture about love.

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. 1Corinthians 13:4-8 ESV

For anyone who has ever been in-love or is in-love knows the truth of this scripture. Then my mind went wandering thinking that when atheists and agnostics fell in love wouldn’t the same scripture be true for them as well. If you recited the above scripture to the atheists and agnostics and did not tell them it was scripture they would agree with you readily that it is the true definition of love because they have been or already are in-love.

So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Genesis 1:27 (NKJV)

When God created man and woman not only did He create them in His own image but He also created the ability for man and woman to love for that is also His image

Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. 1 John 4:8 (NRSV)

One more just to drive the point home…

13 Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13 (NLT)

So if you love and know love then you know about God…sort of. We can never fully know God except for what the bible tells us. So if God created man and woman and gave man and woman the ability to love and God is love well that’s just something someone wrote hundreds of years ago and put in a book called the bible.

This is where you get very close to them and quietly say, “You know that definition of love that I told you in the beginning that you agreed with?”

The atheist nods their head nervously.

Quietly say, “Its scripture.”

21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. Revelation 22:21 (KJV)
