3 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 1:3(NIV)
Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. Typically Ash Wednesday is a day of self denial, fasting, prayer, and meditation. Typically most Christians deny themselves of a particular food, such as meat, eggs and or milk product, or behaviors like watching TV or some such thing. The idea is to abstain from either activities or food or anything that is pleasurable. Instead we are to us the time and energy in repentance, prayer, and meditation through all this we should turn away from our sins and recommit ourselves to God and His Holiness. I read somewhere that the 40 days Lent should be a time of grieving knowing that our sins caused the brutal death of Christ Jesus because Christ Jesus died on the cross to wash away our sins.
So this Valentine’s Day falls on Ash Wednesday as well which is going to be a total bust for Christians unless you decide to give flowers to your loved one but give up chocolate for lent and stay home and watch movies instead of going out to eat because you’re fasting. You and your loved one would have already read scripture, meditated, and then prayed as a couple. Your movie of choice should be one that does not contain any commercials as not to be tempted by food commercials. By comparison this is not as bad as Christ Jesus going out into the desert fasting for forty days and forty nights while fasting, meditating and praying and all the while enduring the many temptations by Satan.
9 Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity.10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Psalm 51:9-10 (NIV)
However you decide to spend Lent do it with faith, love, repentance and sincerity.
21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. Revelation 22:21 (KJV)
