For Ssali Lauben

Grace and peace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 2 (NIV)

One year there was drama about a Starbucks coffee cup and a group put a picture of this offensive red cup with a comment that read:

“If one family in one out of every three churches adopted a child from foster care, there would be no more orphans in the United States.

But please tell me more about how offensive this red cup is.”

Human kind has a tendency to forget things that we cannot see. Take for example those children that have been orphaned or placed in foster care because of violent or abusive circumstances. We do not see them in the news and there is very little discussion about these children anywhere in the news media. In the United States there are programs to help foster parents and the children and orphanages but that is not true globally. There are many countries where orphanages are funded by public donations and often in small amounts.

27 Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world. James 1:27 NRSV

17 But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? 1John3:17 ESV

So I have a facebook friend that I have never met and he is a pastor in a church in Kampala Uganda. He also runs an orphanage there and is always asking for my help. I have no money so I pray but this week I decided to blog about the needs of the children in the orphanage there.  His name is Ssali Lauben and you can find him easily enough on facebook but as to how to help him and the children is another matter. He has no means of getting help locally or internationally no website or paypal account. So now the questions arrive:

  • How can we send help to you?
  • Is there anyone in your area that could help you with food and shelter for the children?
  • Are there any government agencies that could assist you?
  • Is there any international churches or organizations that could help with this matter?

The other day I saw news about someone asking for people to make donations to pay for a 54 million dollar plane.

First of all you don’t need a jet to do God’s ministry you could teach others and they would teach others and then the Christian brotherhood would be doing the things that we are already doing spreading God’s word to everyone around us we would just be doing it on a much larger scale. Secondly 54 million dollars would go a long way in feeding the children in orphanages all over the world and the homeless and the poor in the U.S. but that’s just me.

So how do we help the orphans and the widows of the world? If anyone out there has connections to international organizations and/or churches that could help please seek out Ssali Lauben on facebook I think that would be a good starting point as for me I will pray.

21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. Revelation 22:21 (KJV)
