Thank You Virgil

Grace and peace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 2 (NIV)

The other day some of the members of the CGC and me were playing Star Trek Online and having friendly conversation. After a while Virgil joined the Discord server and posed a question. Who is responsible for your salvation? I was puzzled as I knew that Virgil already knew the answer to the question.

The Christian Gaming Community is made up of Christians from a variety of backgrounds and religious sects. Some are Methodists some Baptists other Lutherans and Nazarenes we even have some Jehovah Witnesses. Our common ground is that we believe that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior and He died for our sins after that we spin off in different directions. What I find significant is that our members are of mature Christian faith that can accept other people’s religious perspectives as long as they hold to the fact that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior and He died for our sins. We do not curse or swear in our Discord because I consider that to be a much needed exercise of restraint although I do forgive for those moments of “slippage” that does occur because we are after all human besides that when people catch their error it is usually followed by some kind of humorous recovery.

So returning to the question at hand “Who is responsible for your salvation?” there were two main answers. The majority replied that we the individual need to choose to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior into our life. However there was one person that said Jesus Christ because He died for our sins. I get that but it is still the individual’s choice to accept Jesus Christ into your life or not and then the debate started.

I am not one to tell other Christians how they should interpret the bible mainly because I feel every Christian have their own journey and scripture can have one meaning one day and a different one the next. There are so many scriptures that would work here but I like this one best.

11 So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing. 1Thessalonians 5:11 (NLT)

I think it’s important that Christians help Christians in their journey but keep in mind that God has a purpose for everyone so the Christian journey is not the same for everyone.

21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. Revelation 22:21 (KJV)
