It’s All I Got

Grace and peace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 2 (NIV)

I write blogs for this website not dissertations so I endeavor to keep things short and to the point but there times that it is difficult to accomplish…this is one of those times.

Last Sunday I finished reading the book of Ezekiel and when I read the end I thought “Whhhaaaattt!?

35 It was round about eighteen thousand measures: and the name of the city from that day shall be, The Lord is there. Ezekiel 48:35 (KJV)

From chapter 40 all the way to the end of the book of Ezekiel the author writes of himself and a man that shows him around a magnificent temple, courtyard, and city. The city total measurement of all four walls was 18000 cubits. Cubits held varying degrees of lengths depending on which culture it was derived from but suffice it to say that the borders walls of the city is slightly over a mile long and the total length of all four walls is 5.1 miles not a very big city by present day standards.

I should mention that in the book of Ezekiel from chapters 40 to 48 Ezekiel has a vision of a man that shows him the city with measuring rope and measuring rod in hand showing Ezekiel the city and measuring it as well. This whole time I was thinking that this was a city to be built but then in the very last scripture of the book of Ezekiel the man with the measuring rope and rod said “The Lord is there”…mind blown.

So the ending has me stumped is the city referring to Jerusalem or maybe the New Jerusalem as in Revelation. Could it be that it is a symbolic representation of our heart and our faith or even our spiritual journey as a Christian? After thinking and mediating over this last scripture in the book of Ezekiel I have come to the conclusion that I don’t know or could it be that Ezekiel 48:35 (KJV) is the first and original cliffhanger or Ezekiel was given a map of the city wherever it may be. It’s not very glamorous or insightful but it’s all I got.

God bless all that read this with His love, light, grace, mercy, and wisdom. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.

21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. Revelation 22:21 (KJV)
