I was Just Curious

Grace and peace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 2 (NIV)

I finished reading the book of Hosea in one week only because I was looking to see what I could blog about. So basically the book of Hosea about the Israelites turning away from God still and yes these are the same ones from the book of Jeremiah God just included more places and tribes in the book of Hosea.

The Charge Against Israel

Hear the word of the Lord, you Israelite’s, because the Lord has a charge to bring against you who live in the land: “There is no faithfulness, no love, no acknowledgment of God in the land.
There is only cursing, lying and murder, stealing and adultery; they break all bounds, and bloodshed follows bloodshed.
  Hosea 4:1-2 (NIV)

From what I understand this simply means that God is mad at Israel for not following God’s decrees, regulations, and commandments. Essentially Israel has turned their back on God and has worshiped idols made of metal and wood. They have turned their backs on the God that has brought them out of Egypt watched over them in the wilderness and brought them to this land of milk and honey. So now the people of Israel are cursing, lying, murdering, stealing, and committing adultery this sounds familiar for some odd reason…I just can’t put my finger on it. They break all of God’s commandments so now God is upset with them so then God tells Hosea.

Yet I have been the Lord your God ever since the land of Egypt; you know no God but me, and besides me there is no savior. Hosea 13:4 (NRSV)

Our Heavenly Father God Almighty tells them that He is the only God that saves. If the people of Israel would only turn away from their sins then God would save them…that is a great love.

Normally I would stop there and the blog would be finished except that on Sunday morning I read the book of Joel which is only 3 chapters long and easily read in one sitting. I found this scripture and thought how great is our God.

12 Yet even now, says the Lord, return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; 13 rend your hearts and not your clothing. Return to the Lord, your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, and relents from punishing. Joel 2:12-13 (NRSV)

From Jeremiah through Daniel and into the book of Joel God explains what will happen to Israel for having turned away from our Heavenly Father God Almighty…most of it not good. Through all those books God tells all of God’s prophets that if Israel would just turn away from their sins and worshiping pieces of wood and metal and come back to God with a repentant heart that God would save them again. “Abounding in steadfast love” meaning that God still love us and He would be “gracious and merciful”…how great thou art.

I was going to end the blog back there but I was curious and so I goggled for the word love and how many times it appeared in the King James Version of the bible…310 times. Like I said I was just curious.

God bless all that read this with His love, light, grace, mercy, and wisdom. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.

21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. Revelation 22:21 (KJV)
