What I Learned in School This Week

Grace and peace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 2 (NIV)

Godlessness in the Last Days

But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men corrupted in mind and disqualified regarding the faith. 2 Timothy 3:1-8 (ESV)

At present I am reading Zechariah but I remembered the above scripture during the course of my readings and realized something. In the old the testament from Jeremiah to Zechariah God sends prophets to warn the people of Israel to turn away from evil and return to worship the Lord of Heaven Armies and if they did not turn back to God then their cities and people would be destroyed and some people will be taken hostage to Babylon. As we all know these things did happen even though God sent so many prophets to warn Israel.

In the above scripture the Apostle Paul explains things that are to come and is very specific and detailed about those behaviors yet to come. Just to be clear Second Timothy was written as a letter by the Apostle Paul who wrote a large portion of the New Testament. This letter was sent to a young pastor Timothy hence the books of Timothy. Like Hosea and Jonah Apostle Paul also explains the things and people that we should avoid and not do.

Just as a refresher Jannes and Jambres were the magicians of the Pharaoh’s court when Moses and Aaron were asking the Pharaoh to release the Jewish slaves in Egypt.

In comparison in the books of Jeremiah through Zechariah prophets explain the calamities that will fall on Israel because they have turned away from God. Many of prophets have explained that God will be merciful if the just turn away from evil but alas they do not. Timothy says:

But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 2 Timothy 3:1-4 (ESV)

When I look around the world today I wonder if these are the times that the Apostle Paul was writing and warning us about. Perhaps we should take a page out of the bible and turn towards our Heavenly Father God Almighty, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, and the Holy Spirit in prayer.

God bless all that read this with His love, light, grace, mercy, and wisdom. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.

21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. Revelation 22:21 (KJV)
