Present Day or Near Future?

Grace and peace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 2 (NIV)

I finished the Second book of Timothy last week and finished last week’s blog when the mass shootings of El Paso Texas and Dayton Ohio occurred. The scripture below may be familiar to many of you but somehow it seemed relevant to the events of El Paso Texas, Dayton Ohio and the world.

Godlessness in the Last Days

You must understand this, that in the last days distressing times will come. For people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, inhuman, implacable, slanderers, profligates, brutes, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to the outward form of godliness but denying its power. Avoid them! For among them are those who make their way into households and captivate silly women, overwhelmed by their sins and swayed by all kinds of desires, who are always being instructed and can never arrive at a knowledge of the truth. As Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these people, of corrupt mind and counterfeit faith, also oppose the truth. But they will not make much progress, because, as in the case of those two men, their folly will become plain to everyone. 2 Timothy 3:1-9 (NRSV)

Just so you know Jannes and Jambres were the magicians of the Pharaoh’s court and threw down their staffs that turned into snakes just like Moses did except Moses snake ate Jannes and Jambres snakes. Pretty sure this is the only time that Jannes and Jambres names appear in the bible. So I listed all the characteristics of people as explained by Paul in the above scripture.

For people will be

lovers of themselves,

lovers of money,

boasters,

arrogant,

abusive,

disobedient to their parents,

ungrateful,

unholy,

 inhuman,

implacable,

slanderers,

profligates,

brutes,

haters of good,

treacherous,

reckless,

swollen with conceit,

lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,

holding to the outward form of godliness but denying its power.

This scripture is full of people doing not-good things and a lot of very bad things much like what is happening today in our world. Actually a lot of it has been happening for a while the only difference is that now it just keeps getting worse. Three days later I read this in the book of Titus. One thing about Paul he never stops spreading the Good News that Christ Jesus saves.

But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:4-7 (NIV)

One thing about the bible that I have noticed is that here Paul says all these bad things and bad people will happen but there is still one great thing…Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior can save you.

God bless all that read this with His love, light, grace, mercy, and wisdom. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.

21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. Revelation 22:21 (KJV)
