Blog #11,,,because I couldn’t think of a title … title

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 1:3 (NIV)

Just a quick side note I have taken a liking to opening and closing my blogs with the blessing from the book of Corinthians.

A gunman shot and killed 9 students at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon. It’s sad that these kind of events involving schools and shootings are becoming a frequent occurrence. Sometimes I do not understand the reasoning or why these things happen but then I remember this. Insert biblical hyperlinks here.

For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. Matthew 15:19 ESV

It’s only been a few days since that campus shooting and already the world has moved on. This verse does not bring me comfort but does explain some people and their actions in our world. I could say that the world is an evil place. More biblical hyperlinks.

19 We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one. 1 John 5:19 NIV

But I see so much goodness in my community and in the brotherhood around me that I forget what is happening to my Christian brothers and sisters all around the world. Biblical hyperlinks.

Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king. 1Peter 2:17 (NKJV)

Many atrocities have been committed to those of the Christian faith.

Anyone with ears to hear
should listen and understand.
10 Anyone who is destined for prison
will be taken to prison.
Anyone destined to die by the sword
will die by the sword.

This means that God’s holy people must endure persecution patiently and remain faithful. Revelation 13:9-10 (NLT)

As I researched this portion of the blog I discovered many graphic articles regarding IS killing Christians including children. We, Christians, that live in secure areas of the world cannot fathom the atrocities that other Christians face in the volatile portions of our world. We live in an age that our technology allows us to see and hear everything from across the world. We can see events unfolding in the middle east on our television or the catastrophes in regions of the world through the internet. We receive social media notifications from our friends through our iPhones.

We look we see we hear and we wonder. We wonder why people die? Where’s mommy? We wonder why did that person shoot and kill so many people? Have you seen your sister today? We wonder why so many died in those floods? What happened to my little brother? We wonder how people feel as they face terminal disease and illness and what about their families? Mommy what’s wrong with daddy? We, Christians, can see the world and we wonder we hope and we pray.

16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. James 5:16 (NLT)

Pray without ceasing, 1Thessalonians 5:17 (NLT)

23 May the grace of the Lord Jesus be with you.24 My love to all of you in Christ Jesus. 1 Corinthians 16: 23-24 (NLT)
