Anger Management

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 1:3 (NIV)

I wanted to write a little bit about anger. How some people, even Christians, can make you angry but you don’t say anything because you are just angry all the time at them even though we are Christian. As Christians we are to be forgiving to everyone especially those of the Christian brotherhood and part of the body. Some people, even Christians, will become angry and say and yell lots of stuff. It’s hard to say which is the right way to deal with anger because…we are human. Which means we are prone to many mistakes. Then I thought why write about anger? Is it really a good thing to talk about? I mean everyone knows what anger is we all have been angry at one time or another. So I found a few bible verses that could help us with that emotion.

11 Fools vent their anger, but the wise quietly hold it back. Proverbs 29:11 NLT

So a fool is someone who yells and screams in anger but the wise man quietly holds his anger back…hmmm.

20 because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. James 1:20 NIV

So don’t be angry…got it.

Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, Ephesians 4:26 ESV

So it’s okay to be angry because we are after all human but don’t sin because we are angry and don’t stay angry…oh…okay…makes sense actually.

There are so many more verses about anger and it gets complicated with so many. So then how should we deal with our anger? I like the following scripture because I feel that it represents how God wants us to treat and teach each other and not just Christians.

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 1Corintians 13:4-7 ESV

If you have read my earlier blogs you would see that this is one of my favorite verses because it’s says so much of how we Christians should relate to one and another and to others. I think the following verse speaks to all people that want goodness in this world not just Christians.

39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 22:39 NIV

So then love is the a way for us to deal with our anger and the anger of those around us. Love is not arrogant or rude but helps form relationships with other people in a healthy mature manner. If we follow 1Corintians 13:4-7 then there would be less arguments less hostility more fellowship more “random acts of kindness” less domestic violence less hurting each other more love more goodness. More of the things that God wants us to have in this world. Love is the answer to many things in our life and in love there is wisdom as well. Wait…What?!

23 May the grace of the Lord Jesus be with you.24 My love to all of you in Christ Jesus. 1 Corinthians 16: 23-24 (NLT)
