The Other Thing About the Book of Acts or How to Get a Free Boat Ride

Grace and peace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 2 (NIV)

I believe it’s important to share the Christian faith with all the people around us simply because there is so much love and joy.

12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. 2 Timothy 3:12 (KJV)

In my recent readings in the book of Acts there are two people that suffered so much persecution as they delivered the teachings from Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Stephen was not only persecuted but stoned to death for his teachings about Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Later on Paul was arrested because he was teaching about Jesus Christ our lord and Savior rising from the grave.

When Paul noticed that some were Sadducees and others were Pharisees, he called out in the council, “Brothers, I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees. I am on trial concerning the hope of the resurrection of the dead.” When he said this, a dissension began between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the assembly was divided. (The Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, or angel, or spirit; but the Pharisees acknowledge all three.) Then a great clamor arose, and certain scribes of the Pharisees’ group stood up and contended, “We find nothing wrong with this man. What if a spirit or an angel has spoken to him?” 10 When the dissension became violent, the tribune, fearing that they would tear Paul to pieces, ordered the soldiers to go down, take him by force, and bring him into the barracks. Acts 23:6-10 (NRSV)

And now for the rest of the story

11 The following night the Lord stood near Paul and said, “Take courage! As you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome.” Acts 23:11(NIV)

Four chapters and just as many court proceedings later Paul asks King Agrippa to appeal to Caesar which King Agrippa agrees to. Paul gets his boat trip to Rome where he spends the next two years spreading the Good News that Jesus Christ saves.

Our God is an awesome God. It’s moments like these in the bible that just gives me goose bumps.  Our Lord Jesus Christ sent Paul to Jerusalem so Paul could get a free boat ride, through treacherous seas and storms, to spread the Good news that Jesus saves…in Rome!!! Our God is an awesome God.

In my Christian life I have had quite a few people persecute me for being a Christian. My usual rebuttal is “I do not share your opinion” and then get called some phrases and names that I cannot mention here. It probably would have been better to turn and just walk the other way but I never do that…the next scripture also gives me comfort.

22 Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man. Luke 6:22 (NIV)

God bless all that read this with His love, light, grace, mercy, and wisdom. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.

21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. Revelation 22:21 (KJV)
