Consider This….

Grace and peace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 2 (NIV)

I finally finished the book of Ezekiel, which is 48 chapters long. Ezekiel was captured by Babylonians and taken back to Babylon after the Babylonians seized and destroyed Jerusalem. Ezekiel was both priest and prophet during this time, 593 to 571 B.C., to the nation of Israel.

Ezekiel prophesied many things in this book. Ezekiel begins with the judgment of Israel and its leaders. Idolatrous leaders are condemned and God explains to Ezekiel that God sent Babylon’s army because of Israel’s sins. However, I did find a scripture that I found particularly notable.

16 At the end of seven days the word of the Lord came to me: 17 “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me. 18 When I say to a wicked person, ‘You will surely die,’ and you do not warn them or speak out to dissuade them from their evil ways in order to save their life, that wicked person will die for their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood. 19 But if you do warn the wicked person and they do not turn from their wickedness or from their evil ways, they will die for their sin; but you will have saved yourself. Ezekiel 3:16-19

I found this particularly interesting because God gave Ezekiel the task of telling people to turn away from their sins so they would not die and if Ezekiel did not he would be held accountable for their death.

Say to them, ‘As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, house of Israel?’  Ezekiel 33:11

For me this shows God’s mercy and love something that we should all remember. To me God loves us so much that God wants us should turn away from our sins and our evil ways, repent our sins, and follow all of God’s commandments much like God asked Israel to do rather than fall to God’s punishment.

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 NIV

God bless all that read this with His love, light, grace, mercy, and wisdom. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.

21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. Revelation 22:21 (KJV)
